Seismic Assessment

Seismic solutions limited started as a specialised consulting practice in seismic assessment and strengthening of existing buildings. The director and principal engineer, Dr. Najif Ismail, has been at the forefront of knowledge development in this domain. Having written a book and more than 60 international publications, numerous seismic assessment reports, contributed to the very guidelines used by engineers in and beyond New Zealand, inspected building performance after major earthquakes, and years of research makes him an international expert in this subject. His contributions and achievements have been nationally and internationally recognised and he has been awarded prestigious awards. It is often said the quality comes with a big price tag, but this does not apply to our business model, you can still receive services of an internationally known and awarded expert with a price tag of a small consulting practice.

Our past work included:

  • Pre-sale or pre-purchase engineering reports that involves initial seismic assessment (ISA), with a high level discussion of areas of possible concerns and recommendations on remedial actions required
  • Initial seismic assessment (ISA)
  • Detailed seismic assessment (DSA) with identification of possible problem areas and recommendation on strengthening concept

Initial Seismic Assessment

Initial Seismic Assessments

Seismic Solutions have undertaken initial seismic assessment (ISA) of several buildings located in the Wellington region and beyond using initial evaluation procedure and additional supplementary calculations to assign a seismic rating i.e. % NBS for a given importance level. Output of the ISA process is a report meeting the requirements listed in the EQP methodology with IEP sheet, calculations, and assessment summary report.

Detailed Seismic Assessment

Detailed Seismic Assessment

Detailed seismic assessment (DSA) to assign a seismic rating i.e. % NBS to individual structural elements of the building’s lateral load resisting system.
